Mr. Thompson previously served as briefing attorney for Chief Justice Max Osborn of the Texas 8th Court of Appeals in El Paso. He also served as an assistant attorney general for the State of Texas. Mr. Thompson's practice involves representation of clients in general civil litigation matters including personal injury, defense of units of government and public officials, employment, civil rights, defamation, commercial litigation, construction litigation and premises liability. Mr. Thompson is a board certified specialist in Civil Appellate law and also maintains a Civil Appellate practice in addition to representing clients before state agencies, and trial courts.

Representative Work

  • Represented multiple police officers and other public officials in civil rights cases, included pre-suit investigation and crisis management, agency hearings, drafting and arguing dispositive motions, in trial and on appeal.
  • Outside counsel for Fortune 500 corporation defending all Central Texas personal injury litigation from initial investigation to appeal.
  • Represented multiple clients in appeals including complex matters before the Texas Supreme Court interpreting the Tort Claims Act and the standard tenants lease under the Property Code.
  • Representation of different agencies and public officials in complex civil rights litigation on appeal to the Fifth Circuit including appeal concerning whether or not the Fifth Circuit would adopt the government created danger theory of liability for Section 1983 claims.
  • Participated in special investigation on behalf of the City of Austin involving officer fatality.
  • Defended high profile civil Election Code case involving allegations of money laundering of corporate funds for election purposes and other alleged Election Code violations.
  • Insurance defense for complex personal injury cases
  • In 2016, represented an officer in an excessive force jury trial in Federal Court securing a no liability finding
  • In 2016, represented several officers in an interlocutory appeal to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals securing a ruling from the 5th Circuit finding the officers were protected by qualified immunity


Mr. Thompson has served at the appointment of then Governor George Bush to the Texas Diabetes Council, a board that helps set state policy for treatment, care and relief of diabetes in the state for the Department of Health. He has been a board member of the Children's Diabetes Camp of Central Texas, board member of the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Central Texas, and frequent speaker at their camps regarding special education law for families whose children have diabetes. Mr. Thompson has also served as a Special Assistant Disciplinary Counsel for the Texas Commission on Lawyer Discipline. He lives in Austin with his wife, Cindy. They enjoy spending time with their three children and spoiling their five grandchildren.
