Mr. Shuley's practice involves the representation of clients in general civil litigation matters including insurance defense, premises liability, insurance coverage, and construction litigation. He also works with clients on complex catastrophic loss litigation, alcohol liability claims, collection cases, and the drafting of contracts and other legal documents.

Representative Work

  • Represented insurer in catastrophic loss setting and managed over 150 hurricane claim files concurrently, which included conducting case analysis, drafting file overview memo, responding to discovery, reviewing production, complying with requirement of a standing order, drafting motions for summary judgment, analyzing expert reports, appearing at hearings, and preparing mediation outlines.
  • Oversaw, as lead associate, the development of a Medicaid fraud lawsuit against a major pharmaceutical manufacturer that included the review and analysis of over half a million documents provided by the defendant, numerous fact witness depositions, drafting of various motions, and substantial trial preparation.
  • Provided numerous coverage opinions to insurance carriers regarding matters including construction defects, breach of contract, additional insured coverage, alcohol liability coverage, theft, motorized vehicle coverage under homeowner's insurance policies, permissive user exceptions, limits of liability, covered vehicles, and general negligence.
  • Conducted legal research and draft memoranda regarding various complex legal issues including insurance coverage, alcohol liability, property tax disputes, interstate trucking, discrimination, employment law, insurance law, and construction law.
  • Drafted complex motions for summary judgment in cases involving: A local fraternity in a dram shop case; An insurance carrier in an insurance code violation case; A local telecommunications company in a general negligence and breach of contract case; A subcontractor in a general negligence case; A general contractor in a construction defect case.
  • Drafted various briefs and motions
  • Represented clients at discovery hearings, summary judgment hearings and various other pretrial proceedings.
  • Represented clients at numerous mediations.
  • Conducted witness interview, depositions preparations, and depositions of experts, plaintiffs, and various other individuals.


Mr. Shuley is married and the father of two young children. He is the Current President and Referee Commissioner of the Westlake Soccer Association where he has served in various capacities including as a coach, board member, and referee for the past 15 years. He is active in church and various other community organizations.
